What does hormone replacement therapy actually cost?
Almost nobody publishes a straight answer, so here is how HRT pricing really works. The total you pay is made up of four separate pieces: the initial consult, comprehensive lab work, the hormone itself (and how it's delivered), and ongoing follow-up visits with repeat labs. Clinics that advertise one low monthly number usually leave two or three of those out. At Idaho Health & Hormones in Meridian we quote all four at your consult, in writing, before you commit to anything.

- Why can't clinics just post one price for HRT?
- Because HRT isn't one product. A woman on low-dose topical estradiol and progesterone has a very different cost structure than a man on testosterone pellets with quarterly labs. Any clinic quoting a single flat number is either bundling in things you may not need or excluding things you definitely will.
- Are pellets more expensive than injections?
- Per dose, pellets usually cost more up front because each insertion is a procedure that covers several months. Injections and creams cost less per refill but are billed more often. Over a year the totals are closer than most people expect — the better question is which delivery route fits your biology and your routine.
- Does insurance cover hormone replacement therapy?
- Sometimes partially, and rarely predictably. Coverage depends on your plan, your diagnosis codes, and whether your labs fall inside conventional reference ranges — which is exactly the problem for patients who feel awful with 'normal' results. We're a cash-pay clinic with transparent pricing, and we provide superbills you can submit for HSA/FSA reimbursement.
- Can I use HSA or FSA funds?
- Yes. HRT is a qualifying medical expense for most HSA and FSA accounts. We provide itemized superbills for reimbursement.
- What makes the first year cost more than later years?
- Front-loaded diagnostics. The first year includes your baseline panel plus a recheck once you're on a protocol, because dosing is adjusted against real numbers rather than a standard protocol. Once you're stable, lab frequency drops and so does your annual total.
- How do I get an exact number for my situation?
- Book a new patient visit. We'll review your symptoms and history, tell you which labs are actually indicated for you, and give you the full cost of your protocol before you start. Same-week appointments are usually available in Meridian, ID.
